![]() The crash of Helios Flight 522 remains as the d eadliest aviation accident in Greek history. ![]() Onboard Flight 522 were 115 passengers and 6 crew members, all of whom perish in the crash. Very sad to see such a tragedy almost immediately following the lucky outcome of the recent AF accident. However, the engines stop operating due to fuel depletion and the 737 crashes into the mountains near Grammatiko, Greece. The man attempted to fly the plane to regain control and show the F-16 pilots that he's no threat. As the F-16s pull alongside the 737, everyone was out cold except for one guy using an oxygen tank to breath. If I was a passenger on a plane at cruise altitude and the oxygen masks deployed, I know that there is only about 10 minutes oxygen available. Although the masks in the passenger cabin deployed, the crew were unaware of this and didn't realise the extent of the problem. After receiving no response to radio call from Athens ATC, two F-16 fighter jets were scrambled to investigate the plane. Helios Flight 522 crashed when the crew unknowingly suffered hypoxia. After taking off from Athens, the plane mysteriously started to depressurize (due to an electrical malfunction or t he inadvertent opening of the aft service door), causing the passengers and crew to suffer from hypoxia until they eventually passed out, resulting it as the Ghost Flight. ![]() ![]() The plane made a stopover at Athens International Airport in Greece. The flight was on its way to Prague Ruzyne International Airport the Czech Republic from Larnaca Interational Airport, Cyprus. Render of the actual 737-31S involved as Helios Airways Flight 522 which crashed on Augafter loss of pressurization caused the passengers and crew to suffer hypoxia, resulting in the "ghost flight" to run out of fuel and crash into a hill in Grammatiko, Greece. ![]()
